Why renew vows? To celebrate your marriage! To reaffirm your commitment to your marriage and maybe even add a few more promises to each other!

Speaking from personal experience, renewing my wedding vows with my husband was one of the most meaningful experiences we’ve shared in as partners (of course, welcoming our children ranks a bit higher in my memory, but no score card is necessary when recounting the highlights of your marriage!). You see, when we got married, my husband (in many ways my opposite), did not want to give personal vows to each other standing up in front of our 100+ guests. So we did the standard repeat-after-me vows we’ve all heard countless times. That was fine! They are traditional vows for a reason, plenty of good promises made! However, we still wanted to give each other our own vows, promises intended for only our own ears and hearts. For this reason, we waited until our honeymoon to give our personal vows to each other. So we found a perfect bench, on the side of a mountain, and we poured our promises out for one another. We returned to that same bench years later and restated our vows, adding a handful of new promises for good measure. It was perfect, in every sense of the word. We plan to return to that same spot in the future to do the same. Hopefully one day with grandchildren in tow, may we be that lucky!
